The $1,000,000 in economic relief to households can be used for utility (electricity and water & sewer bills) or stove oil support for heating homes.

The NWAB has to spend all CARES Act funds by December 30, 2020.

Yes. households can go to the www.nwabcovid.org website and apply online (preferred) or download and submit the application in person, email, or via mail. This documentation of need will be used to verify that our households are receiving funds for any financial hardship due to COVID-19.

Eligibility is determined by current residency in the Northwest Arctic Borough. Residency can be validated by a current utility bill or statement.

Applications will begin being accepted on October 19, 2020 and the deadline to apply is November 9, 2020.

  1. Payments will be mailed out to utilities in early December 2020. You will not receive the payments directly.
  2. The delay in between payments being mailed out and the application deadline is to ensure that the one payment gets paid to the appropriate account entitled to that relief.
  3. Processing all at once allows us to distribute more money into the community by allowing us to cut the administrative costs of the project.
